Residential Monitoring Systems
Monitoring Solutions for Residential Solar Installations
Already a small solar energy system can help lower your energy bill. During daytime when houses normaly are unoccupied and energy more expensive, the solar energy system, if correctly sized, can make your energy meter literally go backwards, feeding energy back to the power grid. A good monitoring system helps you see how much energy your system produces and thereby how much money you have saved. By also monitoring the demand, you get a profile for the households use that makes it easier to track down unnecessary energy usage.

Selecting a Solar Energy System
You can read more about how to select a solar energy system and an installer in
the California Energy Commission's guide: "Buying
a PV Solar Electric System - A CONSUMERS GUIDE" (PDF, 29 pages, 388 kB).
Financing & Rebates
To help finance your solar energy system you have several different options.
What makes an investment in renewable energy differ from other home improvement
projects is that there are different kinds of rebates available to help finance
residential solar energy systems. There are also a variety of loan products available:
Unsecured loans (signature loans, lines of credit, and credit cards) with
shorter terms (1-3 years) and relatively high interest rates. Secured loans
with longer terms (up to 30 years) and relatively lower interest rates. The
interest rate and terms are dependent upon the strength of the collateral
used to secure the loan. Also, for many home-secured loans, the mortgage interest
can be deducted from income taxes. Residential real estate secured loans are
the most common form of credit available for home improvement. In addition,
loans for certain eligible consumers (including low-income, minority, and
veterans) offering special terms or rates are available from a variety of
specialty lenders.
